Why Is It Called BrainSTEM?
BrainSTEM consist of STEM experts and health professionals (Midbrain), Hip-Hop artist (Pons), and high school students (Medulla oblongata). The program reflects the components, functions, and roles performed by each stakeholder a part of this first-of-its-kind Hip-Hop Cypher Ed x Applied STEM didactic teaching program.
We strategically position young students, especially from underrepresented groups to identify their innate genius and see their reflections in lucrative STEM careers, while performing BrainSTEMology(TM) coursework at the collegiate, graduate, doctoral, and post-doctoral level through individualized projects and peer-peer collaborative activities.
Did you know Hip-Hop’s founders incorporated STEM hidden like hieroglyphics in this artform creating pedagogy? Hip-Hop comprises of elements equivalent to Chemistry’s Periodic Table, Medicine’s Grand Rounds, and Academia’s Plato Symposiums which are implemented for everyone to enjoy and engage especially in the cypher.
BrainSTEM is uniquely different than any other STEM/STEAM program.

Mission
BrainSTEM’s mission is to increase students from urban and rural communities awareness, preparation, and knowledge of careers in the health sciences, clinical research, and biopharmaceutical industries. We challenge the youth to create brilliant rhymes academic showcasing their ability to interpret and articulate applied STEM content with their peers.
Did you know there are fewer black men in medical school now than in 1978? Less than 2% of teachers are black males, 6% of doctors and 4% of pharmacist are black. We are dedicated to closing the wealth gap through lucrative careers in STEM for minorities, especially black males by changing its gender and racial landscape.

Curriculum
Droppin’ Science curriculum is designed to maximize students ability to deliver STEM content. We encourage an organic environment to improve and enhance their experiences learning, interpreting, and expressing STEM content.
The curriculum is collaborative in nature to develop a meaningful form to enhance our students comprehension scores. We add value to their overall academic experience through utilizing innovative learning styles and methodologies not typically implemented in middle or high school curriculums. We implement cypher culture to re-imagine the utility for urban and rural collaborations.

Da' Cypher STEM Lab
Implements a refreshing way of learning and articulating STEM content through a group collaborative cypher. We aim to increase all student’s likelihood to pursue higher education within all related STEM careers. Our algorithm allows students to acquire essential life skills building their confidence in public speaking, self-esteem, reading comprehension, analytical/reasoning, vocabulary building, written composition, and statistical literacy.
BrainSTEM addresses the lack of diversity, equity, and inclusion in STEM through its unique lab features. We help close the academic gap for minorities especially black males and racial disparities in health care.
